  • Get an early start on the next breeding season!  I have five twin Romney and Romney cross ram lambs for sell.  The first pair of Romney twin lambs are white or black, robust at birth.  Mother's fleece is always one of my first to sell.  The second set of twins, also one black and one white, are Romney x Dorset.  The last twin is a black Romney x Cotswold.  He is full of life and has a beautiful curly black fleece.  These ram lambs come from a closed flock which has been bred for parasite resistance, great fleeces (all fleeces sell each year for good prices) and good mothering characteristics.  These ram lambs will be banded by May 17th.  Pictures are available by request.  $100 each. Moretown,  Amy Kuzio 802-223-7687, akuzio@verizon.net 5/2/08, Item #544

  • For reduced sale or possible barter.Wonderful black and brown Border Leicester ewes with great fleece for spinning!
This small family of friendly Border Leicester girls has beautiful fleece but problems with prolapses and lambing.  I feel that they should not be bred anymore, but hate to just cull them as they could make a great handspinner’s flock and beautiful lawnmowers.  They include: the grandmother, Mrs Hearty (5 yrs old), a large ewe with light and dark brown fleece who came from Ruth Polichuk’s flock;  her daughter Valentine (2 yrs old), who’s fairly small for a BL with black fleece; and possibly their ewe lambs (one white, two black).  I would make a very reasonable deal with the understanding they are not going to slaughter.  Besides their prolapse problems, they are very healthy.  Barter possibilities are numerous, including wool processing for us. Please call or email. Erica Zimmerman (802)223-6930, Montpelier, Vt area, mczim4@comcast.net 4/18/08, Item #540

Other

  • Vermont Farm-sitting Network http://groups.yahoo.com/group/farm-sit/

Please come join our co-op of small farms in northern Vermont and exchange farm-sitting with other farmers in your area. Each member of the group has a small farm (under 30-ish animals) and sooner or later would like to go on a weekend trip or week-long vacation.

You have probably experienced the same problem. How do you convince someone to take care of all of your animals? Will you feel confident that the person can handle it while you're gone? No money changes hands in this network. Each member must be known by or referred by at least one other member of the group. Then we can vouch for the sitters being good upstanding responsible people. Each sitter starts with 10 days of farm-sitting points. To earn more points you can farm-sit for another member. When you want to have someone farm-sit for you then post a request and "pay" your sitter with one point per day.

Tell your friends and neighbors and help us spread the word
